Science
At Leverstock Green CE Primary School, we aim to prepare our pupils for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world. Science is taught through a process of enquiry, increasing pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our world through development of the associated skills. Learning in science is through systematic investigations and first hand experiences physics, chemistry and biology. This will enable them to be equipped to ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them. We allow children to develop their natural curiosity, continue to deepen their respect for the natural world and all of its phenomena, and increase their care and appreciation of it.
The key knowledge identified by each year group is informed by the national curriculum and builds towards identified phase ‘end points’ in accordance with NC expectations. Key skills are also mapped out for each year group and are progressive throughout the school. These too ensure systematic progression to identified skills end points which are in accordance with the Working Scientifically skills expectations of the National Curriculum.
