Design and Technology
At Leverstock Green CE Primary School, our aim through Design and Technology lessons is to provide opportunities for children to develop their creativity and problem solving skills. Children are challenged to design for a purpose, bring their designs to life and evaluate the effectiveness of their output. As children move through the school, they learn and develop a range of skills; woodwork, working with food and constructing with different materials and textiles. By the end of KS2, they will have had opportunities to incorporate mechanics, electricity and computing in their designs.
Through a variety of creative and practical activities, children are taught the knowledge and skills they need to become the next generation of inventors, architects and engineers. Children become responsible designers and makers who work ethically, using finite materials carefully and working safely. Children learn to be resourceful, ask questions and take risks; working independently and in small groups. Through the evaluation of past and present inventions, they develop greater understanding of design and technology’s impact on daily life and the wider world.
